Mass turn-out at the ‘4th annual Dro.Me.A. Racing Klirou – Atovrisi Cross-Country race!’

More than 400 participants took part at the 4th annual Dro.Me.A. Racing Klirou – Atovrisi Cross- Country race, competing in the 12 km, 4 km, 500-m children’s race, as well as in cycling.

According to the organisers, Dro.Me.A. Racing runners’ club and Klirou Community Council, the participants enjoyed a day of recreational sport in the paths of the beautiful natural environment around Klirou. The aim of the event, which was the promotion of social sport for all ages as well as to raise awareness for a healthier and more active lifestyle, was fully accomplished. The whole event was under the auspices of KOEAS and it was supported by the CSO, FBME, Webarts and Becel Pro.Activ.

Mr. Eliophotos Eliophotou, member of Dro.Me.A. Racing and Race Director stated that: ‘the mass participation by recreational athletes and the impact that this event has in all age groups, transforms this race into a celebration of sport!’

In the 12-km race, David Branfoot of Dro.Me.A. Racing was the men’s winner in 46’31”, with Christos Lamaris of ELDYK and Periklis Demetriou taking 2nd in 46’48” and Costantin Marian-Cosmin of Sporting Club taking 3rd in 48’39”. In the women’s 12 km, Zarina Mentayeva of Dro.Me.A. Racing was a comfortable winner in 58’42”, Chrystelle De Jager of the Cyprus Trail Runners was 2nd in 1 hr 1’56” and Pola Hatzipapa finished 3rd in 1hr 7’20”.

In the 4-km event, Sokratis Sokratous of Periklis Demetriou was 1st in the men’s division and Georgia Theodosiou of Dro.Me.A. Racing was the winner in the women’s division. Promising messages were sent out by the young runners competing in the 500-m run, with Stella Anastasi winning the girl’s category and Konstantinos Michaelides winning the boy’s category.
In the 12-km cycling event the winners were Melissa Vrachimi in the women’s division and Christos Mouros of Saint Mnasonas Tamasou in the men’s division.
Following the completion of the races, the award ceremony took place for the winners in all categories. The awards were presented by Mr. Philippos Sophokleous, Substitute Director General of the Cyprus Sport Organisation, Mr. Nikos Alexandrakis, Klirou Council Community president and father Nikolas of the local church.

Both Dro.Me.A. Racing and Klirou Community Council would like to express their gratitude to all those who worked and contributed to the success of the whole event, promoting at the same time, volunteerism through sport. Furthermore, thanks go out to the ladies of Klirou for the local delights that they prepared and offered to the people who attended.
